THE AWARD

THE ONE Humanitarian Award was created to empower and reward extraordinary individuals who dedicate their lives to serving others in need to alleviate pain, suffering, poverty and hunger.

Launched by Rotary International District 3450 (RI D3450), the award taps Rotary International’s powerful network of 1.2 million people to help seek and identify everyday heroes who put service above self.

THE ONE can hail from any corner of the globe, regardless of gender, race or ethnic background.

All awardees will receive cash prizes that can be used to further their service projects and humanitarian efforts.

In 2015 THE ONE Humanitarian Award launched THE ONE Hong Kong. This was followed by THE ONE Philippines in 2018.

THE FOUNDER

Dr. David Harilela

THE ONE Humanitarian Award is the brainchild of philanthropist and former Rotary District Governor, Dr. David Harilela. Inspired by the Rotary motto of, “Service above Self,” he wanted to create an annual award to seek and honour individuals who dedicate their lives to serving humanity.

David is a third generation Hongkonger and joined the Rotary Club of Kowloon Golden Mile in 1999. He became District Governor for District 3450 in 2011 and launched THE ONE Humanitarian Award in 2012.

Philanthropy is an essential part of David’s life and work. He serves on the Board of Directors for The Community Chest and is a trustee for the Kanya Daan Foundation which provides food and education to the poor and needy in India. He also founded the George and Chandra Foundation which contributes to a range of causes including education, diversity and medical relief.

An astute businessman and entrepreneur, David is also CEO of the David Harilela Group and Director of Harilela Hotels Limited.
